How I came to join Revolver:

Recruited by Davis Dogs coach and current Revolver teammate and carpool buddy Eric “Redbeard” Halverson.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:

1. Baylis’ fast story in Tahoe.

2. Chappie’s pigeon story in Prague.

3. Beau’s Colombian whale story in Tahoe.

4. Sherwood’s pre-game warm-up at Northwest Regionals 2010.

5. Cassidy’s bathroom visit to the cellar at Froggy’s in Davis on his 21st birthday.

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:

Winning Worlds in Prague, Czech Republic, because it was my first championship.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:

1. 2009 Sean Ryan – Davis Dogs vs. Cal – My first full year on the Dogs and this was my first ever matchup against Cal. The game went to universe point and I caught the game-winning goal (my eight goal of the game) on a bailout throw that hung over a crowd of people. Suck it, Dutchy, Ryo, and Joel! It may be worth mentioning that Sean Ryan was a pre-season tournament and that the next time we played Cal when it actually mattered we lost 15-3. 🙁

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:

1. Taylor Lahey – my captain for the first two years with the Davis Dogs, for being one of the hardest-working players and having as much heart as anyone I’ve ever played with.

2. Allen Thoe – for his wheel and for still being crazy athletic with half a foot.

3. Daryl Nounnan – for teaching me patience even though I never listened, and for being as hairy as a baboon.

4. Steve Joye – my dad, for influencing me to play this dumb sport (if you can even call it that).

5. Eric Halverson – for being my first coach and teaching me everything he knows as I continue to play on Revolver, including his sweet shimmy before he throws a flick (mine is probably better now though).

6. Kevin Cissna – for his work ethic and intensity, even though it scares me sometimes.

Favorite movie as a kid:

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

What makes ___ so dangerous?

Goose step. ‘Nuff said.

Theme song:

1. LMFAO – YES

2. Zac Brown Band – Chicken Fried

Pre-game ritual:

Rest as long as possible before I have to start running.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:

Chicken. Fried. Just kidding–that’s gross. Probably a burrito.

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:

Basketball, backpacking, rock climbing, piano, food.

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:

Green Bay Packers

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?

0.1 in the right lighting.

Something unknown about me:

1. I actually hate Ultimate — I just play because the chicks dig it.

2. I’m actually faster than Beau.

San Francisco Jam (2005)
Revolver (2006-present)

Accolades:
Northwest All-Region (2005-2007)
4th in Callahan voting (2007; Revolver is full of Callahan top 5’s, but no winners. It keeps us scrappy)
Farricker Award (2009)

How I came to join Revolver:
Nick Handler had a great idea for a team.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
1. Chappie’s pigeon story.
2. We hosted a party in Prague. We invited hundreds of people to this party in a cool underground club called Popo Cafe Petl. We expected it to be packed, but to our disappointment it was only medium-full and many of our teammates weren’t even there. At about 11:00p we got a call from a teammate who said, “Where are you?! Why aren’t you at Popo Cafe Petl?” We quickly realized there was more than one Popo Cafe Petl in Prague — four different Popo Cafe Petl’s to be precise. Our teammates and invitees were all ove the city at four different clubs with the SAME NAME.

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
1. Qualifying for Nationals in 2006 in our first year by beating Rhino on double-game point. There’s a great picture of this somewhere with Rocky, Halverson, and Nat.
2. Worlds in Prague was a once-in-a-lifetime experience staying in those crowded dorms, playing seven days in a row, enjoying the city nightlife, meeting hundreds of people from all over the world who are passionate about Ultimate, competing against the Buzz Bullets, and meeting Senator Arlin Specter at the castle and inviting him to our games (he never showed…).

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
1. Winning Kaimana Klassik in Hawaii in 2008 over Ono on a goal to Halverson.
2. Every tournament with Stanford.
3. Green Lake Goaltimate in Seattle from 2007-2009.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Bart Watson, Shreyas Vijaykumar, and Brandon Hyde — three senior leaders during my freshman year in college. I tried to quit Ultimate in the fall after a few practices and about 15 minutes after I sent the e-mail Shreyas was in my dorm room with a written-out list of reason I should keep playing. Pretty convincing!
2. Mike Payne — He was my coach as a freshman and he kept Revolver together when it struggled in 2007-2008.

Favorite tournament:
Club Worlds

What makes ___ so dangerous?
Two-handed driving-a-bus backhand.

Theme song:
Anything that Taylor likes or Chappie sings along to.

Pre-game ritual:
High-five every player on Revolver. It helps! It’s science! Just ask the Mavericks.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
Everything

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Coming up with crazy ideas for new companies

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:
San Francisco Giants

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?
0.4

Something unknown about me:
My favorite part of Revolver is watching the young guys develop into great players.

Northwest All-Region (2009)

How I came to join Revolver:
In 2008, my college coach Ryo really pushed me to try out for Revolver, and the rest is history.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
1. Chuck Kindred playing “Get Down On It” on the fiddle during a long break at practice.
2. Upon landing in Austin for Texas Shootout, riding in the car with Tom when the only sentence he seemed able to say was, “We have to go to Whataburger! We have to go to Whataburger!” and staring out the window like a little kid. And then we found a Whataburger and it was the best fast food meal I’ve ever had at a tournament.
3. Anything that happens at Sushi Totoro – tons of sushi, beer hockey, and credit card roulette.

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
2010 Worlds (WUCC). Being halfway around the world in Prague playing Ultimate against the best teams in the world was an amazing experience.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
1. Catching the game-winning huck to qualify for 2009 College Nationals. I still smile when I think about it.
2. Winning Kaimana Klassik in 2010.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Favorite player to watch – Jeff Cruickshank. His throws were so perfect, I could only dream about throwing like him.
2. Biggest influence – Ryo Kawaoka and Alexander Ghesquiere. As my college coaches, I just ate up everything they said.

Favorite tournament:
Nationals

What makes ___ so dangerous?
3/4 length tights.

Theme song:
AC/DC – For Those About to Rock

Pre-game ritual:
Taking forever to put on cleats, then drinking some sort of fake energy before warm-up.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
Steak

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Reading, cooking, and napping.

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:

Ono (Kaimana, 2006-2009, 2011)
San Francisco Jam (2009)
Revolver (2010-present)

Accolades:
2001 Black Tide Rookie of the Year
2006 Ono team spirit award recipient
2010 “Best Puller / Worst Zone Deep” award for Revolver

How I came to join Revolver:
I followed Bart Watson.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
1. Schlag arriving at the Siesta Key beach house at 9:00a on Monday after we won Nationals as we’re loading up the car to head to the airport. He rolls up from the direction of the beach, bewildered and covered in sand and asks Boo, “What the eff happened last night?” By the way, Boo made it it about 60 yards down Midnight Pass Rd before he asked me to pull over.
2. While waiting in the Jack In the Box drive-thru in Austin after Saturday’s game, Taylor (shirtless) is looking at himself in the passenger sun visor mirror and in an irritated tone says, “Look at me. I’m fat. This is disgusting.”
3. Beau telling us we’re at the wrong bar in Prague when we were at the wrong Popocafepico or whatever that place was called.
4. Jit’s relentless yelling. He was screaming about better marks in some meaningless game and somebody from the other team asked one of us if he was always like that, to which we replied, “Yep.”

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
Revolver vs Journeymen in pool play at Northwest Regionals 2010.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
Beating Colorado in the finals of 2004 college Southwest Regionals.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Taylor Cascino – He used to be sick. It was kind of weird when I first realized that I was as good as him in 2005 when we played on the Condors.
2. Nick Fiske – Great captain and attitude. Favorite quote was, “Winners never have excuses.”
3. Mike Brown – Never hesitated in speaking his mind to me. It was all sh**-talk but it was what he was really thinking. It’s weird how much I hated him when we’d battle in practice and how much I liked winning with him at tournaments. He’s like your little brother–you like to fight him but when somebody else gets in his face, you attack.
4. Alex Roedel – The sickest performance that I’ve ever witnessed from a teammate was his at 2007 Southwest Regionals against Johnny Bravo.

Favorite tournament:
Nationals

What makes ___ so dangerous?
My left forearm when I’m throwing a flick.

Theme song:
Queen – We Are the Champions

Pre-game ritual:
40 yard sprints

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
The same thing I eat almost every night — a burrito.

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Ideally, paragliding. One day.

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?
I can go without sunscreen.
